Agnes von Brandenburg (*  1257 ; †  29 September 1304 ), also called Agnete von Brandenburg in Scandinavia, was Queen of Denmark from 1273 to 1296 .

Life

She was a daughter of Johann I , Margrave of Brandenburg from the Ascan family and his second wife Jutta von Sachsen (* 1240; † December 23, 1287), also from the House of Askania.

On November 11, 1273 she married the Danish King Erik V. Glipping (* 1249; † November 22, 1286, king since 1259) in Schleswig . After he was murdered in 1286, she used the opportunity, with the journalistic support of the minstrel Rumelant von Sachsen , to get rid of her most important adversaries by banishing those accused of the murder and to secure the claims of her underage son Erik Menved . As regent, she ran the affairs of state for her son until 1294 and only then began to officially carry the title of queen ("Danorum slavorumque regina, ducissa Estoniae") herself.

In 1293 she entered into a second marriage with Gerhard II (1254-1312), since 1290 Count of Holstein-Plön .

Marriages and offspring

With Erik V. Glipping, whom she married in 1273, she had the following children:

  • Erik VI. Menved (1274 - 13 November 1319), King of Denmark (1286–1319)
  • Waldemar († 1304)

  • Katharina (* 1278, † 1283)

From her second marriage to Gerhard von Holstein-Plön came:
