Gerhard II (* 1254 ; † October 28, 1312 ), known as the blind, was Count of Holstein-Plön .

Life

He was the second son of Gerhard I von Holstein-Itzehoe and Elisabeth von Mecklenburg .

When his father died in 1290, his father's county was so divided up among the sons still alive that Gerhard II was Count of Holstein-Plön from 1290 , while his younger brothers Adolf VI. ruled as Count of Holstein-Schauenburg and Heinrich I as Count of Holstein-Rendsburg .

Marriages and offspring

On December 12, 1275, he married the Swedish princess Ingeborg (* approx. 1262, † approx. 1290/93), a daughter of Waldemar I. Birgerson of Sweden, and had the following children with her:

  • Catharina (* around 1276; † before 1300), married to Otto I of Pomerania
  • Gerhard IV. (* Around 1277; † 1312) Count of Holstein-Plön
  • Waldemar (* around 1279; † July 29, 1306) Count of Holstein-Schauenburg, died after the Second Battle of Uetersen
  • Elisabeth (* around 1282; † July 20, 1318 or 1319)

In 1293 Gerhard married Agnes von Brandenburg and had a son with her:

  • Johann III. (* around 1297 - † September 27, 1359), from 1312 Count von Holstein in Kiel.
