Agrippa Silvius

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Agrippa Silvius is a descendant of Aeneas in Roman mythology and the tenth king of Alba Longa .

His predecessor was Tiberinus Silvius . He ruled for 41 years. If one uses the reigns given by Dionysius of Halicarnassus with a back calculation from the traditional year of the founding of Rome , then this corresponds to the years 916 to 875 BC. His successor was Romulus Silvius .

It is assumed that this king's name was added when the king lists were edited in Augustan times in order to flatter Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa , the friend and general of Augustus . In Titus Livius' list of kings , Agrippa and Romulus Silvius are the 11th and 12th kings of Alba Longa, respectively. At the appropriate position in the list in the Fasti of Ovid appear Agrippa and Remulus where Remulus with Augustus is to identify itself. In order to give Augustus precedence over Agrippa, Ovid exchanged the order of the two kings in the Metamorphoses and names Remulus followed by Acrota , where Acrota is said to have been a nickname of Agrippa.
