Aguilares is a city in the department of San Salvador in El Salvador , which is about 33 kilometers away from the capital San Salvador . According to a 2007 census , the city has 19,134 inhabitants.
Location and structure
The urban area is delimited to the north by the municipality of El Paisnal and the Rio Lempa , to the east by the municipality of Suchitoto in the department of Cuscatlan , to the south by the municipalities of Nejapa and Guazapa and to the west by the municipality of Quezaltepeque in the department of La Libertat .
The city is divided into five administrative areas: Florida, Las Tunas, Pinalitos, Pishishapa and Los Mango.
Surname
Aguilares was named after the siblings Nicolás, Vicente and Manuel Aguilar, who played a leading role in the independence movement in El Salvador.
