Ahmed ibn Abd al-Aziz Al Saud ( Arabic أحمد بن عبد العزيز آل سعود, DMG ʾAhmad b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz Āl Saʿūd ; * 1940 ) is the king of the 38th son of Ibn Saud , and, since his mother Hasa bint Sudairi was to the so-called Sudairi Seven , including his older brother and later King Fahd ibn Abd al-Aziz counts . As the son of Abd al-Aziz ibn Saud, he bears - like all male descendants - the full surname "ibn Abd al-Aziz Al Saud" .

Life

When Prince Ahmed was eleven years old, his father died. He grew up mostly with his mother and older biological brothers. His oldest biological brother, King Fahd, who died in 2005, was largely the father substitute for the young Prince Ahmed. Prince Ahmed spent his school days in Riyadh. In 1962 he left Saudi Arabia to study at the University of Redlands in the USA . On July 26, 1968, Prince Ahmed graduated from there with a degree in administration.

Prince Ahmed has a total of five daughters and seven sons from two marriages.

In June 1971, Prince Ahmed was appointed Deputy Governor of the Mecca Region by his older half-brother King Faisal . On October 13, 1975, Prince Ahmed was appointed Deputy Minister of the Interior by his half-brother King Khalid . After the death of his brother Naif on June 18, 2012, he became his successor as Minister of the Interior, making him number three in the state behind King Abdullah and Crown Prince Salman . On November 5, 2012, however, it was announced that Prince Ahmed had been removed from the post of Interior Minister at his own request and that Mohammed ibn Naif would succeed him as Interior Minister. According to observers, this has made it unlikely that Ahmed will ever become king.

In March 2020, Ahmed ibn Abd al-Aziz and the king's nephew Mohammed ibn Naif were arrested on charges of treason (the alleged preparation of a coup to overthrow the king and his crown prince Mohammed bin Salman ) on the order of this prince.
