Sudairi seven

The Sudairi Seven are a group of seven full brothers whose father is the Saudi Arabian king Abd al-Aziz ibn Saud and whose mother Hasa bint Sudairi . As with all male descendants of her father, her full surname is: ibn Abd al-Aziz Al Saud . The Sudairi Seven and their sons play an important role in Saudi Arabian politics and the succession to the throne .

Of all the groups of sons of Abd al-Aziz, the Sudairi Seven are most likely to be considered pro-American. They are named after the Sudairi clan their mother is from.

They are:

  1. Fahd ibn Abd al-Aziz (1921 / 1923–2005), King of Saudi Arabia from June 13, 1982 to August 1, 2005.
  2. Sultan ibn Abd al-Aziz (1928–2011), First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Civil Aviation, Crown Prince (August 2005 - November 2011)
  3. Abd ar-Rahman ibn Abd al-Aziz (1931–2017), Deputy Minister of Defense (1978 to November 2011)
  4. Naif ibn Abd al-Aziz (1933–2012), Minister of the Interior (1975–2012), Crown Prince (2011–2012)
  5. Turki ibn Abd al-Aziz (1934–2016), Deputy Minister of Defense (until 1978), Ambassador; had to leave Saudi Arabia and lived in Cairo
  6. Salman ibn Abd al-Aziz (* 1935), Governor of Riyadh (1962–2011), Minister of Defense (from 2011), Crown Prince (from June 2012), King (since January 2015)
  7. Ahmed ibn Abd al-Aziz (* 1940), Deputy Interior Minister (1975–2012), Interior Minister (June 2012 - November 2012)

Political influence

The strong influence of the Sudairi Seven began under King Faisal , who was supported by the Sudairi clan in the power struggle with his brother Saud . The eldest brother Fahd, Interior Minister from 1962, became King of Saudi Arabia in 1982. During this time the brothers met weekly to discuss Saudi politics. Sultan became crown prince and defense minister, Naif interior minister. Sultan's son Bandar was the Saudi ambassador to the United States for a long time.
