Turki ibn Abd al-Aziz

Turki ibn Abd al-Aziz Al Saud ( Arabic تركي بن عبد العزيز آل سعود, DMG Turkī b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz Āl Saʿūd ; * 1934 ; † 2016 ) was a Saudi Arabian businessman and member of the Saudi royal family .

Life

Prince Turki ibn Abd al-Aziz Al Saud was one of 44 sons of King Abd al-Aziz ibn Saud and, since his mother was Hasa bint Sudairi , belonged to the so-called Sudairi Seven , i.e. the seven full brothers, including King Fahd ibn Abd al-Aziz († 2005) counts. As the son of Abd al-Aziz ibn Saud, he had - like all males - the surname "ibn Abd al-Aziz Al Saud" . Until 1974 he was Vice Minister of Defense and Ambassador.

In 1958 he belonged to the Council of Crown Princes under Prince Talal bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud , who founded the political movement “Free Princes” ( Arabic الأمراء الأحرار, DMG al-umarāʾ al-aḥrār ) in exile in Cairo , was reconciled with the family, which is why the movement has been dissolved since the 1970s with the return of Talal .

When he wanted to marry Hind al-Fassi , the daughter of the politically condemned Shams ad-Din Abdullah al-Fassi , in 1973 , his political decline began. His prospective father-in-law had been convicted of being a public critic of the country's westernization . The name al-Fassi was so infamous in the royal family that Fahd ibn Abd al-Aziz sped his car into unpaved terrain and had an accident there after his brother had told him about his marriage plans. From then on, the al-Fass-Turki clan began to travel through the world's hotels.

Due to the oil crisis of 1973, the wealth of the al-Fassi-Turki clan grew enormously. The clan owned apartments in London , Spain , Saudi Arabia and had their own Boeing 707 . Brother-in-law Mohammed Al-Fassi even ran a zoo in Saudi Arabia.

Through his brother-in-law, Turki came into contact with Al Malnik in the 1980s , who became his financial advisor for four years; his son Mark Malnik married into the family clan in 1982 because he married Honda Al-Fassi , a daughter of Mohammed al-Fassi .

Prince Turki lived with his family in a hotel in Cairo.

His son Prince Sultan bin Turki bin Abdel-Aziz, who had denounced corruption in his home country and called for democratic reforms, was kidnapped in Switzerland in 2004, transported by plane to Saudi Arabia and placed there under house arrest.
