The Aichfeldbus (then Regionalbus Aichfeld ) was designed in 1996 as a new transport system to develop the Upper Styrian region of Aichfeld-Murboden with around 50,000 inhabitants in the five communities of Fohnsdorf , Judenburg , Knittelfeld , Spielberg and Zeltweg .

The concept of the Aichfeldbus was developed in close cooperation with the Aichfeld communities. Existing lines were integrated into the Aichfeldbus system or a completely new line was created. The main aim of the planning was to get as close as possible to the main settlement areas or public places and schools .

Line 3

Under the slogan “We move aich”, the Aichfeldbus offers mobility on three different lines with 52 stops by means of ten turquoise- blue low-floor buses . The stops have been given a uniform appearance. The line network is 54.4 km long:

  • Line 1: 21.8 km
  • Line 2: 14.6 km
  • Line 3: 18.0 km

The majority of the transport network is supplied by two lines, which means that there is a 15-minute cycle on most routes, and there are additional connections at peak times, for example in the morning or when the shift changes.

Transport times and offer

line 1

Line 1 connects Knittelfeld and Judenburg , in the direction of Judenburg the first connection starts at the Knittelfeld Bahnhof stop at 5:05 a.m. and runs every half hour until 7:05 p.m. In the opposite direction, the first course starts from Judenburger Robert-Stolz-Gasse at 5:25 a.m., the last at 8:05 p.m. After that, however, there are no more evening courses on line 1. On Saturday mornings until around 2 p.m. there is the same regular service as from Monday to Friday, on Saturday afternoon from mid-September 2007 a 60-minute service was established. On Sunday, the Aichfeldbus has recently started offering a two-hour service all day.

Line 2

Line 2 runs between Fohnsdorf and Judenburg, and was best developed with regard to evening connections and weekend connections. On the one hand, it supplies the entire urban area of Judenburg, the Arena am Waldfeld shopping center (with over 70 specialist shops and chains) and the local area of Fohnsdorf. However, numerous exceptions to the timetable and partial journeys on the weekend limit the quality of the offer.

Line 3

Line 3, which connects Knittelfeld and Fohnsdorf, currently starts at 5:20 a.m. in Knittelfeld Bahnhof, the last regular trip every half hour takes place at 6:50 p.m. There is also a connection at 9:30 p.m. However, there is a big gap on the weekend: direct connections are only possible on Saturday until approx. 1 p.m. in both directions, the rest of the weekend is unavailable.

financing

The annual costs of the Aichfeldbus Aichfeld are around 904,780 euros (figures from the 2000 financial plan). Half of this amount is financed jointly by the federal government and the state of Styria, the other half by the five Aichfeld municipalities. The distribution key among the five municipalities takes into account the number of inhabitants and the tax head ratio .
