Aiguille du Grépon
First ascent August 5, 1881 by Albert Mummery , Alexander Burgener and B. Venetz

The Aiguille du Grépon is an alpine peak in the Montblanc massif with a height of 3482  m . The Grépon is the highest point of a sharp granite ridge east of the Glacier des Nantillons above Chamonix and northeast of the Aiguille du Midi .

The first ascent was made by Albert Mummery , Alexander Burgener and B. Venetz on August 5, 1881. This first ascent marked the beginning of a new development in alpinism , as climbing difficulties that were previously not considered possible at the later so-called Mummery crack (a few meters IV + ) have been mastered.

Three weeks before Mummery's ascent of Grépon, Peter Knubel from St. Niklaus and his brother-in-law Johann Petrus from Stalden stood with their guests, brothers Francis M. and Gerald W. Balfour, on the southern tip of Grépon (3385 m).

Albert F. Mummery climbs the Grépon rift, later named after him (August 4, 1893)
