Ainars Bagatskis (born March 29, 1967 in Riga , Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic ) is a Latvian former basketball player and current coach who was head coach for the German Bundesliga club Brose Bamberg until January 2019 . Since 2019 he has been the coach of Kiew Basket and the Ukrainian national basketball team .
Career as a player
Bagatskis started his playing career in 1985 with VEF Riga and ended it in 2006 with Barons Riga .
Career as a coach
Bagatskis began his coaching career in 2005 with Barons Riga . After several positions at various clubs in former Soviet states, he coached the Latvian national basketball team from 2011 to 2017. From 2018 he was the coach of Brose Bamberg in the German basketball league . On January 13, 2019, he was dismissed after a 67:85 home defeat against newly promoted Rasta Vechta .
