Aitizaz Hasan

Aitizaz Hasan , also Ehtizaz Hussain (* 1998 or 1999; † January 6, 2014 ) was a Pakistani student who died while trying to prevent a suicide attack by an Islamist terrorist . By intervening, he saved the lives of many people.

Life

Terrorist attack

On January 6, 2014, Aitizaz Hasan, a ninth grade student at a school in Ibrahimzai Town, Hangu District , Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province , was late for class. As a punishment, he had to wait in front of the school building with two other students. Meanwhile, the three of them were approached by a 20 to 25 year old man disguised as a schoolboy. When the other students found cables and explosives under his clothes, they left. According to witnesses, Aitizaz Hasan himself first threw a stone at the terrorist and then tried to overpower him to prevent the attack. The six kilogram explosive device detonated anyway, the assassin died immediately. Hazan later died in the hospital. According to the police, around 2000 people were in the school building at the time of the crime. The terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Jhangvi claimed responsibility for the attack .

The slain student's father said, “My son made his mother cry, but he saved many mothers from crying for their children.” A local resident said that Aitizaz was known for openly criticizing the militants.

Posthumously

Aitizaz Hasan's death received a lot of media attention. He also received numerous honors. The office of the Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif recommended that Hasan be awarded the order Sitara-e-Shujaat (Star of Valor). The provincial government announced that his family would receive five million rupees (around € 45,000) and that the school would be renamed Aitizaz Hasan Shaheed High School. A delegation from a Pakistani human rights organization visited his grave and presented Hasan with a Global Bravery Award. In Islamabad a street was named after him.
