The Academy for Hearing Acoustics (afh) is the central German educational institution for hearing care professionals based on the Hearing Acoustics campus in the university district of St. Jürgen in Lübeck . She is a legally dependent subsidiary of the Federal Guild of Hearing Acousticians KdöR .

The afh is responsible for the inter-company apprenticeship instruction (ÜLU) , the master craftsman training as well as for professional further and advanced training of hearing care professionals in Germany. The inter-company apprenticeship training is carried out in close cooperation with the Federal State Vocational School for Hearing Acousticians in Lübeck, which is also located on campus. The afh is the world's largest training and further education center for a health trade. The afh is quality-tested according to LQW (learner-oriented quality testing in further education). Since 1999, the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences and the Academy for Hearing Acoustics have been offering the "Hearing Acoustics" bachelor's degree in close cooperation.

Training areas

Master preparation
The preparation for the master includes lessons in audiometry , hearing system fitting, otoplasty, and repair and service technology.
Pedic acoustics
Caring for infants and children with moderate and severe hearing impairment requires special training. The afh offers pediatric acoustics courses for apprentices hearing acoustics from 3 years of professional experience. Theoretical knowledge from medical, educational and audiological fields is imparted, as well as the practice of pediatric audiometry and hearing system fitting are conveyed and trained.
Tinnitus
The target group for training courses on tinnitus and hyperacusis are hearing care professionals, ENT doctors, psychologists and therapists who want to specialize in tinnitus treatment. The main focus is on retraining techniques .
Cochlear implant
Cochlear implant (CI) training courses include theoretical and practical knowledge of advice, technical service, maintenance and fitting.

Course in hearing acoustics

In cooperation with the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences, afh offers the bachelor's degree in hearing acoustics. The course consists of a total of six semesters, which are divided into three semesters of basic study and three semesters of core study. The basic course conveys the mathematical, scientific, technical and medical basics that are necessary for in-depth treatment of acoustic issues. In the core course, the areas of acoustics / electroacoustics, digital signal processing, hearing psychology, audiology, hearing system fitting, technology and measurement technology for hearing systems and business administration are dealt with in depth.

Rooms and equipment

The following specialist rooms and laboratories are available on campus:

  • 36 classrooms / specialist rooms with multimedia equipment
  • 40 measuring and fitting rooms
  • 8 laboratories for otoplastics and service technology
  • 8 laboratories for acoustics and hearing system measurement technology
  • 1 lecture hall
  • 3 internet centers

The facility has a total of 7 buildings, 4,600 m² of usable and training space and 23,000 m² of land.

The large lecture hall has the latest audio and media technology. Various acoustic scenarios can be generated at the push of a button, which can be used to create acoustic environments such as a complex microphone and loudspeaker system. B. simulate in a cathedral or an opera house in real time.

The academy has the world's largest collection of historical hearing aids, illustrating the development from the classic hearing tube to the modern digital hearing aid .
