The Lübeck University of Technology is a German university in Lübeck . There are 31 courses of study, 20 with a Bachelor's degree and 11 with a Master's degree. 4,689 people study at the university, 1,484 of them women (as of summer semester 2018).

history

The Lübeck Technical University looks back on a history up to 1808, when the Society for the Promotion of Charitable Activities in Lübeck founded a navigation school , later the Lübeck Maritime School , on the Kaisertor .

The University of Applied Sciences was created in 1961 as the Lübeck State Engineering School . In 1962 she started teaching mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and physical technology.

In 1969 the three engineering schools in Lübeck were merged to form the “Lübeck State University of Applied Sciences for Technology and Seafaring” and in 1973 they were renamed “Lübeck University of Applied Sciences”. The actual roots of the university therefore go back further than those of the University of Lübeck , which was only founded in 1964.

As of September 1, 2018, the "Lübeck University of Applied Sciences (FHL)" will have the new name: "Lübeck Technical University" (English: "Technical University of Applied Sciences Lübeck").

Research and Development

In terms of research and development, the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences was one of the leading universities of applied sciences in Germany, measured in terms of third-party funding. The research focuses on:

  • Biomedical engineering
  • Industrial biotechnology
  • Aquatic beings
  • Plastics technology

International cooperation

The THL gained reputation through the ten-year exchange program in 2005 with the MSOE (Milwaukee School of Engineering) of the electrical engineering course. There is also an international partnership in the field of industrial engineering and mechanical engineering.

Further cooperation and exchange programs take place with the following countries: China, Denmark, Finland, France, Ghana, Ireland, Latvia, Sweden, Spain and the USA.

Online study

The online courses emerged from the federal lead project Virtual University of Applied Sciences (VFH), which began on September 1, 1998 and was funded until the end of 2003. Significantly involved in this project were seven universities from different federal states, which have come together to form a university network and have developed online courses under the leadership of the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences. The result is a bachelor's and master's degree in media informatics and an undergraduate and postgraduate degree in industrial engineering. The first students could start studying online in the 2001/2002 winter semester. The special thing about this course is that the students can acquire 80% of their skills online and only 20% of the course has to be completed in person. This opened up access to a course of study for completely new target groups, especially people who, for various reasons, want to study independently of time and location. The virtual network could be further expanded and numerous further training offers developed through further project funding.
