Akanoid is an electronically based duo from North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany , founded in 1999 , which combines stylistic elements from electro , house , trance , synth-pop as well as indie-rock and alternative-rock .

history

Akanoid was founded in 1999 by Hilton Theissen and Uwe Lübbers as an alternative and stylistically experimental dance project. Theissen used to be a co-founder of the metal formation Dark Millennium and various follow-up projects. It was founded in an apartment and later a studio above the Die Grube discotheque in Winterberg- Siedlinghausen.

After the first record release, Akanoid was signed to the Cologne label Insolation / Zoomia and part of the international psychedelic trance scene. In the next four years they released three singles, two albums and a "best of" compilation, which were produced in-house in the newly founded Elektrofish Studio . At the same time they collaborated with other artists in the scene and side projects such as Sphere (Insolation) and Spacefish (Spirit Zone). The live performances were limited to the psy-trance and tech house scene. The concept of the act continued with the third long-playing record Instant Summer and at the same time found its climax.

The desire for more song-oriented structures with more frequent guitar use and a focus on Hiltons vocals resulted in a new label contract with Echozone from Cologne and the release of the album Cocktail Pop as well as two single EPs ( On Air Again and Usual Freak ).

For the live implementation of the new concept, the band was expanded to include Phil Weyer (guitar and background vocals) and Dirk Meyer-Berhorn (drums). Before a tour as the opening act for De / Vision in autumn 2007, Lübbers dropped out at short notice and was quickly replaced by Daggy Fischer. She took over the synthesizer and also the additional singing voice. In this line-up, Akanoid played numerous individual concerts over the next nine months and found other partners in the booking agency WOD and the AMV Talpa publishing house . The third single EP Nexx was only released as a download.

In July 2008 Akanoid went on tour with the Crüxshadows and presented the EP 100 Burning Guitars . Immediately after the tour, there was another line-up change, with Daggy Fischer (keyboard synthesizer) being replaced by Gregor Matlok (guitar synthesizer).

With the much more alternative-rock-heavy album Civil Demon (May 2009) the band looked at a new phase of their stylistic development and their live performances. Appearances included the Advanced Electronics Festival in Berlin as part of Popkomm and the Wave Gothic Treffen (WGT) 2009. After the bonus online release of the EP EVO with alternative versions and remixes of the Civil Demon and the first With the new online single You Never , the band returned to their original two-person line-up.
