Akatharta is a Death and Funeral Doom band founded as Urzien in 1999 .
history
The founding of the band goes back to the idea of the manta and massacre singer Kam Lee. In the first years of the project he changed the name to Akatharta. With various line-up changes and “false starts”, the project took almost 16 years to put together a line-up that met his expectations. In 2016 Akatharta signed a contract with Pulverized Records , where the debut Spiritus Immundus was released in 2017 . In addition to Lee, drummer Travis Ruvo, guitarist Aaron Whitsell and bassist Chris Sabbath were involved in the recording process. The musicians recorded their contributions in different studios and did not record the album together. The international reception was average to positive. Akatharta has hardly any innovative content on Spiritus Immundus and lyrically engages in ghost story clichés, but convinces with simple and congruent music.
style
According to the band presentation of the webzine Doom-Metal.com Akatharta plays slow and heavy Death Doom , which reaches the pace of funeral Doom bands like Thergothon and Wormphlegm . In reviews of Spiritus Immundus , reference is also made to popular representatives of the original genre. Performers such as Thergothon, Skepticism , My Dying Bride and Mournful Congregation are used as a benchmark. The music combines deeply tuned guitar riffing with guttural growling , rhythm work described as slow and an atmosphere associated with HP Lovecraft . The music is "consistently ultra-slow and extremely brutal. The guitars are in tune to the ground, the basses cause a violent rumble in the pit of the stomach, and Lee's organ was apparently once again worked with a few thumbtacks to achieve such a nasty result. "Occasionally" effects are sampled in [and] the electronic Voice Phenomenon is used as an additional 'instrument'.
