Akestorides of Corinth ( ancient Greek Ἀκεστορίδης ) was in the late 4th century BC. As strategos involved in the internal and external battles of the Corinthian colony of Syracuse .

After Timoleon's death , around the 330s BC In Syracuse the clashes between democrats and oligarchs as well as the threat of tyranny started again. The oligarchs established a council of 600, which soon had to give way to a democratic uprising. The exiled oligarchs allied themselves with them friendly cities in Sicily and with Carthage .

For the fighting that was now beginning, the democratic Syracusans - following the Timoleon constitution - asked in Corinth, the mother city of Syracuse, for a commander in chief. The Corinthians sent Akestorides. He drove out the leader of the democratic party, Agathocles , ensured the return of the displaced oligarchs by negotiating a reconciliation with the moderate democrats, and successfully negotiated a peace treaty with the Carthaginians. According to Akestorides' will, Agathocles was supposed to be murdered while on the run, but he escaped the attack. Nothing further is known of the fate of Akestorides. Agathocles, however, was able to return to Syracuse, was 319/318 BC. Elected commander in chief and obtained 316/315 BC An extraordinary position of power that can be addressed as tyranny, although the democratic constitution formally continued to exist.
