Aki Käppeler

Aki Käppeler (born July 10, 1994 in Stuttgart) is a German-American field hockey player and currently a member of the American national field hockey team.

Life

Käppeler first attended the Albschule Degerloch and later the Karls-Gymnasium Stuttgart . After passing his Abitur, he attended the Technical University of Darmstadt and completed his Bachelor of Science in architecture in spring 2017 in order to follow in the footsteps of his parents, the architects Joachim Käppeler and Maki Kuwayama. His grandparents, the artists Tadaaki Kuwayama and Rakuko Naito, live in New York and form the Japanese / American roots of the athlete.

Career

Käppeler's hockey career began at the age of nine with the HTC Stuttgarter Kickers . He made his international debut in 2012 and is considered one of the most outstanding defenders of his caliber. Later he switched to Mannheimer HC . For the 2016/17 season he finally moved to TSV Mannheim , where he plays on the defensive under jersey number 22 together with his younger brother, Kei Käppeler .

He owes his exotic appearance to numerous advertising contracts, including being an ambassador for the hockey brand YoungOnes, and he is also planning to market his own underwear line.
