Akka , also spelled Áhkká , is a mountain range in Lapland in Sweden . In Sami and Finnish the name means "old woman" and thus refers to the mother goddess (the very first was Maderakka, see also Finnish mythology and Sami mythology ). The mountain is located in the Stora Sjöfallet National Park on the banks of the Akkajaure Lake, which is named after it, opposite the village of Ritsem . The majestic massif is also known as the "Queen of Lapland".
The name of the mountain inspired Selma Lagerlöf : In her novel The wonderful journey of little Nils Holgersson with the wild geese, she named the leader of the wild geese "Akka von Kebnekaise ".

The highest point of the free-standing, multi- peaks mountain range is the Stortoppen with a height of 2015 meters, followed by the Brachtoppen with 1963 meters. The third highest peak at 1916 meters has no name. The fourth highest is called Dubbeltoppen and is 1830 meters high. Västtopparna in the west is 1780 meters above sea level. The remaining summit points have heights of 1734, 1730, 1676, 1628 and 1604 meters.
