Akrützel is a university newspaper at the Friedrich Schiller University and at the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences in Jena . During the lecture period, it is published fortnightly with a print run of 4,000 copies and with a length of 20 to 24 A4 pages. The magazine deals primarily with student issues, the work of the student councils and local issues. In addition to the Unsolicited in Berlin and the ruprecht in Heidelberg, it is one of the oldest student newspapers in Germany with the highest circulation. In addition, the student magazine Unique for intercultural topics is published in Jena .

history

The Akrützel was founded in February 1990 (first published in March 1990) and emerged as a non-partisan newspaper from the publication Reformhaus , an opposition student opinion forum , which has been published since October 1989 . The name Akrützel was created in 1990 and was chosen because, as an artificial word, it is free of political or ideological associations. The newspaper is largely financed by the student councils of the two Jena universities, which receive their money from the semester fees.

The student editorial team works on a voluntary basis. The elected editor-in-chief is employed for one year and is on leave for two semesters. Thanks to a statute, the editorial team can work independently of its editors.

Since September 2018, however, the editorial team has been practically without an editor-in-chief, as Julian Hoffmann, who was elected by the editorial team, was repeatedly rejected by the student council. From November 2018 to March 2019, the university newspaper was headed by a temporary trio. From April to September 2019, Isabella Weigand will be the editor-in-chief. From June 14th to 16th, 2019 AKRÜTZEL organized the first campus media days in Jena. Ten editorial offices of campus newspapers as well as the local campus media CampusRadio Jena and CampusTV Jena took part in the Germany-wide networking meeting on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the university newspaper AKRÜTZEL.

At the Pro Campus Press Award 2014, AKRÜTZEL took 3rd place.
