The Aksai Chin ( Hindi अक्साई चिन झील Aksā'ī cina jhīla , Chinese 阿克赛钦 湖 , Pinyin Ākèsài Qīn Hú ) is an outflowless salt lake in Aksai Chin .
Administratively, the lake in the county is Hotan in the same administrative region Hotan of Xinjiang ( China ).
The 4848 m high Aksai Chin is located on the desert plateau of Aksai Chin. The lake covers an area of 166 km². The endorheic basin of the lake covers 7993 km². It is bounded in the north by the Kunlun Mountains, 50 km away . The lake is almost completely fed by the meltwater from the Kunlun glacier. The glacier area in the catchment area is 769 km² (9.6% of the total catchment area). The most important tributary of the lake is the Aksai River , which has its source in Kunlun northeast of the lake.
