Dora van der Groen (born March 10, 1927 in Antwerp , † November 8, 2015 in Geel ) was a Belgian actress , film and theater director .

Life

Dora van der Groen began her career in the theater at the Koninklijke Nederlandse Schouwburg (KNS) in Antwerp. During her acting career, she has appeared in more than 120 film and television productions. In the film drama Dokter Pulder zaait papavers , which ran in the official competition of the Berlin International Film Festival in 1975 , she played the role of Mevrouw Mies . In 1978 she opened her own drama school. Luk Perceval and Lucas Vandervost are among her most famous students. In the 2001 film drama Pauline and Paulette by director Lieven Debrauwer , she played the role of the mentally disabled Pauline Declercq. The film could, among other awards, at the Cairo International Film Festival in 2001 and collect the Golden Pyramid at the International Film Festival of Cannes in 2001 the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury win.

Dora van der Groen was married twice; first with the director and screenwriter Tone Brulin and later with the actor and director Wies Andersen . She died on November 8, 2015 at the age of 88 in a housing project for people with dementia in Geel, Flanders .

Awards

Dora van der Groen was appointed Commandeur de la Couronne of the Kingdom of Belgium in 2009 .
