The Foundation Aktion Sonnenschein - Help for children with multiple disabilities is an organization based in Munich that promotes the integration of children with and without disabilities .

history

In March 1968 Theodor Hellbrügge was founded in the form of an integrative Montessori kindergarten . The reason for this was his observations that a healthy child lags behind in his development in nursing homes. In the 1960s, Hellbrügge worked intensively on the early detection of developmental disorders in children, for which he developed new methods of early diagnosis and early therapy . His concept for multi-dimensional diagnostics and multi-dimensional therapy envisaged the joint upbringing of children with and without disabilities. The private special school for people with learning disabilities - a model school based on Maria Montessori - was established with the first primary school class in 1970 . In 1977 the associated curative educational day care center was established. Ultimately, the Children's Center in Munich was established in 1985, which is now under the sponsorship of the Upper Bavaria district . At that time, it was an institution in which all specialists could work together and be trained for the first time. It was not until 1996/97 that the school received the designation “Montessori School of Aktion Sonnenschein eV, private special educational support center, school for children with and without special educational needs” and thus the approval as a special educational support center. In 2003, the foundation of Aktion Sonnenschein - Help for the multiple handicapped child was established . The educational facilities were spun off into a subsidiary, the non-profit school GmbH of Aktion Sonnenschein.

The integrative Montessori educational institutions are assigned a key function for the expansion of common education in the elementary sector and in school: with the practice of the Munich Integrative Montessori Primary School (1970) and the Berlin Fläming Primary School , the demand that had been valid up to now in the educational policy recommendations " as much integration as possible and as little segregation as necessary ”has been replaced by the“ equal right to attend general school ”and the premise “ integration is indivisible ”.

Educational institutions

The non-profit school GmbH of Aktion Sonnenschein is responsible for several educational institutions. The care and support of the children is based on the principles of Maria Montessori .

Around 45 children with and without disabilities are currently attending the foundation's integration kindergarten. Almost a third of the children have one or more disabilities or are threatened by them. The children are cared for in small groups by two pedagogical specialists, at least one of whom has a Montessori training.

The Montessori School is a privately owned special educational support center with the special feature that half of the students have special educational needs and the other half do not. The foundation's special educational support center has been approved by the state. Approx. 600 students are taught there according to the principles of Montessori pedagogy. The school consists of a school preparatory facility, a primary and secondary school (1st to 9th grade) + M 10 , as well as a branch for individual coping with life (1st to 12th grade).

Some of the pupils with disabilities (approx. 65 pupils) receive additional support during school and targeted curative education in the curative educational day care center. The HpT looks after children, adolescents and young adults between the ages of 7 and 20 years. There they are given special support in those areas in which they need special support due to their disabilities. Supervision is provided by two pedagogical specialists per group.

aims

The foundation is committed to the principle of bringing up children with and without disabilities together. The social integration of children is supported by Montessori pedagogy . One of the main ideas of Maria Montessori was that learning should be based on the individual needs and abilities of the child.

“In the joint lessons of handicapped and non-handicapped children, the impartial interaction with one another, which is naturally present in toddlerhood, should be maintained and expanded. It is not about pampering the handicapped children and showing them an ideal world, and it is not about doing dressage tricks with them. It's about strengthening their human dignity and developing their self-respect. The point is to give them the help they need so that they can do what they can and want to do - humanely, intellectually and practically. [...] Promotion by demanding what is possible for the individual is one of the principles of Montessori pedagogy in order to develop respect, self-respect and impartiality in dealing with one another.
