al-Baghuz Fawqani ( Arabic الباغوز فوقاني, DMG al-Bāġūz Fawqānī , Kurdish Baxoz ) is a town in the al-Bukamal district in Deir ez-Zor governorate in eastern Syria . It is on the left side of the Euphrates . A bridge over the river connects the place with Abu Kamal . In the 2004 census, the place had a good 10,000 inhabitants.
Battle 2019
al-Baghuz Fawqani was in the civil war in Syria in January 2019 in an area of four square kilometers that was the last to be held by IS in Syria. The fighting continued in early March 2019. On the morning of March 23, 2019, a spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces announced the conquest of the last remnants of the IS area in al-Baghuz and thus the end of the IS caliphate .
