al-Baghuz Fawqani ( Arabic الباغوز فوقاني, DMG al-Bāġūz Fawqānī , Kurdish Baxoz ) is a town in the al-Bukamal district in Deir ez-Zor governorate in eastern Syria . It is on the left side of the Euphrates . A bridge over the river connects the place with Abu Kamal . In the 2004 census, the place had a good 10,000 inhabitants.

al-Baghuz Fawqani was in the civil war in Syria in January 2019 in an area of ​​four square kilometers that was the last to be held by IS in Syria. The fighting continued in early March 2019. On the morning of March 23, 2019, a spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces announced the conquest of the last remnants of the IS area in al-Baghuz and thus the end of the IS caliphate .
