al-Maharraqa
Al-Maharraqa ( Arabic المحرقة, DMG al-Maḥarraqa , Greek: Hierasykaminos ) was a place in Lower Nubia , about 120 km south of Aswan on the west bank of the Nile .
The Serapis Isis Temple
In this place there was a temple dedicated to the deities Serapis and Isis . It was built in Roman times , but never really completed. Only the vestibule, surrounded on three sides by covered colonnades, remains of the temple. A side room is separated from this by half-barriers. The actual temple rooms with the sanctuary have not been preserved or have never been built. There is also no pylon and there are very few reliefs inside the temple . A special feature that can be found here alone is a spiral staircase that once led to the roof. Older depictions show the temple in a rather dilapidated state.
Relocation of the temple
Since its former location was threatened by flooding due to the construction of the Aswan Dam , this temple was dismantled by the Egyptian Antiquities Service in 1962 and rebuilt together with the temple of ad-Dakka in 1966 in New Wadi as-Subu ' . The temple stands on the 1979 World Heritage List of UNESCO .
