Al Edwards

Albert "Al" Ely Edwards (* 19th March 1937 in Houston , Texas ; † 29. April 2020 ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party , which since 1979 over several legislative periods in the Texas House of Representatives represent the citizens of District 146 Has. A brief exception was the period between 2007 and 2009. He finally belonged to three influential committees: as chairman of the Rules and Resolutions Committee and the Budget and Oversight of the Ways and Means Committee, as a member of the Appropriations Committee. He was succeeded as MP by Borris Miles .

He was heavily involved in the civil rights movement . Already in his first legislative term, he achieved the passage of a law on the Juneteenth as a paid holiday in his state . Texas was the first state to have such a law.
