Life

Shortly after Williamson's birth, his family moved with him to Bogotá , Colombia , and did not return to New York until he was 13 years old. In New York, he first attended Burne Hogarth's Cartoonists and Illustrators School and then the Pratt Institute . Williamson published his first comic book at the age of 17. After drawing for several years under various pseudonyms for various comic publishers, he became the youngest graphic artist to work at the comic publisher EC in 1952. After ceasing its magazine sales in 1955, Williamson again worked for various publishers, as a ghost artist for Burne Hogarth and Dan Barry and Assistant to John Prentice on his strip Rip Kirby . In 1966 and 1967 he drew the comic strip Flash Gordon , created by Alex Raymond , before he took over the daily strip Secret Agent X-9 , renamed Secret Agent Corrigan , from Bob Lubbers in 1967 , which he held until 1980. From the 1990s onwards, Williamson increasingly drew comic book adaptations of movies.

Williamson was married twice; his first wife Arlene died in 1977; his second wife Cori, who was married for 32 years, survived him. In addition to his widow, he left a daughter and a son. He was recognized by the National Cartoonists Society in 1966. Andreas C. Knigge described Williamson as one of the "most brilliant American cartoonists".
