Alain Abbott (* 1938 in Lille ) is a French accordion player and composer.

biography

Abbott studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and won the second Second Grand Prix de Rome in 1968 with the cantata Folie et mort d'Ophélie after William Shakespeare .

As early as 1959 he was performing compositions by Bach on the harmonéon (or Accordéon de concert ) invented by Pierre Monichon a few years earlier , accompanied by the pianist Jacqueline Medinger . In 1970 he founded the Union pour la Promotion de l'Accordéon de Concert . His commitment and that of musicians such as Frédéric Guérouet , Myriam Bonnin and Christiane Bonnay for the instrument meant that it was able to establish itself as an instrument for classical music in France. The French Ministry of Education introduced accordion lessons in music schools in 1986.

Abbott has taught accordion at the Universite Musicale Internationale de Paris , the Ecole normal de musique de Paris , the Conservatoire Européen and the Lycée Michelet de Vanves . He wrote a two-volume Méthode complète d'accordéon classique and wrote numerous original compositions, transcriptions and textbooks for the instrument. In addition, there were also chamber music works for other instruments.
