Alain Gouriou

Alain Gouriou (born August 25, 1941 in Lannion ; † December 5, 2012 there ) was a French politician . He was a member of the National Assembly from 1997 to 2007 .

Gouriou was the descendant of a family of bakers from Lannion and studied in Rennes and Paris after graduating from high school . After graduating, he taught history and geography. Gouriou was a supporter of the Parti socialiste and received François Mitterrand at his home in 1974 while he was visiting the region. In 1977 he entered the Lannion Town Council for the Socialists and became Deputy Mayor. After losing the office to the right-wing camp in 1983, Gouriou was able to recapture it for the socialists in 1989. From 1982 he was also a member of the General Council of the Côtes-d'Armor department . In 1992 he also joined the Regional Council of Brittany . In the 1997 parliamentary elections , he ran in the fifth constituency of the department and defeated one of his school friends in the previous MP Yvon Bonnot . In 2002 he was re-elected. For reasons of age, he did not run again in the 2007 elections . Gouriou died on December 5, 2012 after a long illness.
