Alain Lalonde

Alain Lalonde (born April 19, 1951 in Montreal ) is a Canadian composer.

Life

Alain Lalonde first studied piano at l'École Vincent-d'Indy , later at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec with Gilles Tremblay . He then studied at the University of Montreal with Serge Garant and Marcelle Deschênes . In 1974 he took part in a study program for young composers in Paris and Strasburg.

Lalonde has been teaching at the University of Montreal since 1978, where he also wrote his dissertation under the supervision of Michel Longtin . In 1980 he received the first prize of the Canadian Composers' Association (CAPAC) for the orchestral piece Air-Métal . Since the 1980s, joint projects with other composers have become the focus of his interest. As a member of the Group des sisses (alongside Walter Boudreau , Michel-Georges Brégent , Michel Gonneville , Denis Gougeon and Michel Longtin, later John Rea ), he worked on community compositions such as La Folia , Musique des jardins sans complexe and Fanfares-plus .

In collaboration with Michel Gonneville , Pierre Desrochers , André Hamel and Alain Dauphinais , Sonoguide was created , a multimedia work that included a tour of the University of Montreal's music faculty. After the success of this project, he founded the Espaces sonores illimités (ESI) with Hamel and Dauphinais in 1992 . The group composed, among other things, Musique en espace sacré for the 11th International Festival of Contemporary Music in Victoriaville in 1994, the radio production Cadavres presqu'exquis and the Symphonie des éléments and took part in the composition of the Symphonie du millénaire .
