Michel Gonneville

Michel Gonneville (born July 31, 1950 in Montreal ) is a Canadian composer.

Gonneville studied piano at the École de musique Vincent-d'Indy and from 1969 at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal (CMM) composition and music analysis with Françoise Aubut , Gaston Arel , Irving Heller and Gilles Tremblay . During the Darmstadt Summer Courses in 1974 he took part in seminars by Karlheinz Stockhausen , Mauricio Kagel and Iannis Xenakis .

Gonneville lived in Europe from 1975 to 1978. Here he attended composition courses at Stockhausen in Cologne and worked in the studio for electronic music at the Cologne University of Music with Hans Ulrich Humpert . He was a student of Henri Pousseur in Liège and took part in a collective composition in Rolf Gelhaar's composition studio . He also studied with Johannes Fritsch and Frederic Rzewski .

After his return to Canada he taught at the Conservatoire de Rimouski , at the CMM and the University of Ottawa . In 1983 he began studying for a doctorate with Serge Garant , John Rea and Marcelle Deschênes at the University of Montreal , where he also taught from 1985. In 1987 he took part in the Canadian Music Festival and Conference at the University of San Diego . Since 1997 he has been teaching composition and analysis at the CMM.
