The ALAN Srl is an Italian bicycle manufacturer based in Trambacche di Veggiano in the province of Padua .

The company was founded in 1972 by the engineer Falconi Lodovico. Alan used aluminum materials for frame construction right from the start and is considered one of the first wheel manufacturers to produce aluminum frames. The name of the company is derived from the first names of the two children of the company founder, Alberto (AL) and Annamaria (AN).

The German general importer of Alan bikes is Bicisport Colosimo from Berlin.

technology

The manufactory now builds frames and forks made of aluminum and carbon . In addition to racing frames, cross frames are now also made from aluminum. The company developed its own process for connecting frame parts. For example, Alan uses aluminum tubing with a heat treated alloy supplied by Oria tube puller. The frames are partially double butted , which means that the tubes have different wall thicknesses in one component. This technique was common with high-quality steel frames and was adapted by Alan for aluminum frames.

From about 2002 Alan no longer glued the frame tubes in sleeves , but welded the tubes directly using TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas / Tungsten gas shielded welding) arc welding with an infusible electrode ( tungsten ), under the protection of inert gas. Today the dropouts of the frame and the forks are also joined together using adhesive technology.

Cycling

Alan frames are used particularly in the cyclocross professional area, so 21 cyclocross world championships have been won on ALAN bikes. In road cycling , various professional cycling teams were equipped by Alan , mainly in the 1970s . Various six-day riders such as Bruno Risi and Marco Villa also use Alan bikes.
