Alan Davies (* in Ynysybwl , Rhondda Cynon Taf ) is a former Welsh rugby union player and coach.

Davies was born in Ynysybwl, but moved to Nottingham when he was ten . There he went to Loughborough College and played as a connector for the Bedford Blues and Nottingham RFC, among others . As a coach, he led the teams in Nottingham, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire. Between 1986 and 1988 he coached the reserves of the English national team and assisted Geoff Cook during the tour of England to Australia and Fiji .

Due to the resignation of Ron Waldron , the post of Welsh national coach was vacant shortly before the 1991 World Cup . The association initially only signed Davies for the duration of the tournament, but ultimately stayed in office until 1995. At the World Cup, Wales was eliminated in the preliminary round by losing to Samoa . In 1994 the Welsh won the Five Nations , the country’s first single victory in 15 years. After only finishing last in the next year, he resigned before the 1995 World Cup .
