Alan Fletcher
Alan Fletcher (born September 27, 1931 in Nairobi , Kenya , † September 21, 2006 in East Sussex ) was a British graphic designer.
Fletcher studied at the Central School of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art in London and in 1956 with Paul Rand , Herbert Matter and Josef Albers at Yale . In Los Angeles he worked for Saul Bass . In 1962 he was a co-founder of the Fletcher / Forbes / Gill design office. In the 1970s, together with Theo Crosby, Colin Forbes, Kenneth Grange , Mervyn Kurlansky, he founded the Pentagram design office in London , one of the world's most renowned design offices. From 1993 Fletcher was Art Director at Phaidon Press .
Fletcher is considered one of the most influential British designers and typographers of the 20th century.
He has published numerous books, including the design classic The Art of Looking Sideways (2001).
