Alan Jackson (drummer)
Alan Richard Jackson (born January 5, 1940 in Mottingham , London ) is a British modern jazz drummer .
Live and act
Jackson first worked as a graphic designer before devoting himself to playing drums at the age of 21. He began working with Mike Westbrook in the early 1960s ; during the second half of the decade he also played in the bands of John Surman and Howard Riley and the New Jazz Orchestra . In the early 1970s he continued to work with Westbrook (also in its Solid Gold Cadillac ) and was involved in several of its albums, he continued to work with the big band of John Warren , with Alan Cohen and in projects around Surman and Mike Osborne . He also led his own group, Kincade . Then he worked with Dick Morrissey , Bob Barter, Marion Montgomery , Julian Bahula and with Humphrey Lyttelton . Since 1983 he was active again with Kincade . He was also heard in the 1980s and 1990s with Dave Greens Fingers as well as with the Pasadena Roof Orchestra and Michael Garrick's trio , and later with his Jazz Orchestra .
In addition, Jackson is also a lecturer at the Royal Academy of Music .
