Live and act

Osborne first played the violin and studied clarinet at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in the early 1960s . Between 1962 and 1972 he worked regularly with Mike Westbrook . His own long-standing trio with Harry Miller and Louis Moholo formed one of the cores of Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath , in which he was active until the late 1970s. He also worked with Alan Skidmore and John Surman in the SOS saxophone trio. In the mid-1970s, he continued to perform with Stan Tracey , in a duo and also in larger ensembles. He has also worked with Michael Gibbs , Kenny Wheeler , Humphrey Lyttelton , John Warren, Harry Beckett , Norma Winstone and Keith Tippett . One of his recordings is Marcel's Muse (1977).

Between 1969 and 1973 the melody maker honored Osborne as the best alto saxophonist in Great Britain. Health problems forced him to withdraw from the jazz scene in 1982. He died of lung cancer.
