Alar Streimann (born February 26, 1964 in Rakvere ) is an Estonian diplomat . He has been the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia in Berlin since September 2019.

Life and diplomacy

Alar Streimann completed his English studies at the University of Tartu in 1989 . In 1989/1990 he initially worked in the private sector.

When Estonian regained independence, he entered his country's diplomatic service in 1991. His first post was in the Economics Department of the Estonian Foreign Ministry in Tallinn . From 1993 to 1996 Streimann was Counselor for Economic Affairs at the Estonian Mission in Stockholm . In 1996 he became Director General of the Economic Policy Department at the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

From 1997 to 2003 he was State Secretary for European Integration and from 1998 Deputy Head of the Estonian Delegation for the accession negotiations with the European Union and Estonian chief negotiator for the accession talks. On May 1, 2004, the Republic of Estonia joined the European Union.

From 2003 to 2006 Ambassador Streimann was the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Estonia to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg . From 2007 to 2010 he was the Estonian ambassador in Stockholm. In 2011 he became State Secretary (Kantler) in the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He held the office until 2015. From 2015 to 2019 Streimann was Estonian Ambassador in Paris .

Alar Streimann has been the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia in Berlin since autumn 2019. On September 11, 2019, he presented Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier with his credentials .

Private life

Alar Streimann is married to Marika Streimann. He has three grown children.
