Alatau ( Kazakh and Russian Алатау ) is a metro station on the Almaty Metro . It was opened on December 1, 2011 as part of the first construction phase of the metro and was the western terminus of Line A until the opening of a further section in April 2015 .

The station is on the border of the two districts of Almaly and Bostandyq and extends underground in an east-west direction under Abai Prospect between Gargarin Prospect and Scharokow Street.

description

The platform is 104 m long and each of the two outer platforms is 5.4 m wide. Stairs lead from each end of the two ends of the platform to an intermediate level. From the eastern intermediate level there are exits to the north and south side of the street of Abai Prospect; the western mezzanine level has only one exit to the south side of the street.

The walls of the station are clad in white and green marble . The floor is made of granite with simple geometric patterns. At both ends of the station building there is a mosaic of Transili-Alatau , the mountains south of the city , above the tunnel entrance and the stairs .
