Albani cemetery
The Albani cemetery in Göttingen is a historical cemetery, where the burial places of important personalities from culture and science are located. The great mathematician , astronomer , geodesist and physicist Carl Friedrich Gauß found his final resting place here.
Location and use
The cemetery is located on the south-eastern edge of Göttingen's old town near the former city wall and borders the Cheltenhampark to the north . Access is via the Teichweg or the Schildweg. The area has an area of around 12,600 m² and has a large population of old trees. In the northwest is the Schwänchenteich, the last remnant of the former moat that was part of the city wall.
The cemetery is no longer in active use - mind you as a cemetery. Instead, it is a popular meeting place for people of all ages. Hundreds of people celebrate and grill between the graves on warm summer evenings.
history
