Career

education

Ibraimow was born in 1967 in what is now Bishkek. After attending secondary school , Ibraimow worked as a mechanic from 1987 to 1989 , before he was in the service of the Red Army from 1989 to 1991 . After the collapse of the Soviet Union , Ibraimov first studied at the Kyrgyz Economic University, where he graduated in 1994, and then at the Bishkek State University, where he graduated in 1998 in economics . From 1997 to 2004 Ibraimow worked for Kyrgyzavtomash , a Kyrgyz company in the mechanical engineering sector .

First political activities

In 2005 Ibraimow came into a political role for the first time as an advisor to the Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism. Ibraimow only held this position until 2006, after which he switched back to the private sector . From 2010 to 2011 Ibraimov was General Director of the Bishkek Economic Zone and in this role he increasingly appeared in the political operations of the capital Bishkek. From 2011 to 2012 he worked for the Kyrgyz company Dastan Engineering before the Kyrgyz President Almasbek Atambayev made Ibraimov his deputy chief of staff. Ibraimov held this office until 2013. Ibraimow then served as President of the Board of Directors of the operating company of Manas Airport near Bishkek until 2016 .

As mayor of Bishkek

Ibraimov was elected mayor of Bishkek in February 2016. It was set up by the Kyrgyzstan Social Democratic Party (SDPK) . There was no opposing candidate because the other parties did not submit a candidacy. Ibraimov was already at that time a confidante of President Atambayev, as he had promoted his political career and supported him as mayor of Bishkek. With the change in the office of President from Atambayev to Sooronbai Dscheenbekow in October 2017, Ibraimov's position also deteriorated. Although Sooronbai Dscheenbekow also belongs to the social democratic SDPK, a party-internal power struggle developed between Dscheenbekow and Atambayev. In the context of this dispute, the incumbent president acts with great severity against supporters of Atambayev. Ibraimov, who was deposed on July 13, 2018 during his vacation by a vote of no confidence by the Bishkek city council , also took this action . Previously, the deputy mayor was arrested on July 7, 2018. On July 19, 2018, Ibraimov was also arrested on charges of corruption , embezzlement and embezzlement during his time at Dastan Engineering.

process

The Ibraimov trial is part of a series of trials against former leaders who are believed to be Atambayev's confidants. The trial of Ibraimov's predecessor in the mayor's office, Koubanychbek Kulmatov , ran parallel to Ibraimov's trial . Towards the end of the trial, the prosecutor asked Ibraimov to be sentenced to 20 years in prison. The trial ended on December 23, 2019, and Ibraimov was sentenced to fifteen years in prison.
