Alberoni (Venice)

Alberoni is a small village on the Venetian Lido not far from Malamocco , a so-called Frazione . In 2010 it had around 600 inhabitants.
Their name goes back to the ancient Albaiones , which means 'white dunes'. These dunes are now under protection and are looked after by the World Wildlife Fund and the Province of Veneto . There are also pine forests , which are also under protection.
history
In the 16th century the place was heavily fortified to defend against the Ottomans , in the 19th century a second fortress was built. There was also a lighthouse, the Faro Rocchetta, from which the ferries to Pellestrina leave . The Corporazione Piloti dell'Estuario Veneto settled in the immediate vicinity .
In 1993, 25 larger pieces of a ship, the longest of which was 3.2 m long, and numerous fragments of a Roman flat-bottomed ship from the 2nd century were found in the lagoon . The ship was dated using the C14 method to 1935 ± 80 BP , which corresponds to the years 1 to 144 AD.
In 1928 a nursing home and a hospital for the Camillians were built , and in 1930 a golf course.
Since the beginning of the economic crisis in 2007 , both the hospital and the Grand Hotel Des Bains have been completely or partially converted into apartments, although many of them were vacant in 2011.
