The Albert-Einstein-Gymnasium (AEG for short) is a high school in Reutlingen . Its largest catchment area is the Betzingen district . It was named after the physicist Albert Einstein .

history

The main office of the city of Reutlingen presented the first draft for the Albert-Einstein-Gymnasium on May 12, 1966. On October 5th of the same year, the municipal council announced that it would be tender. The construction work began on August 19, 1968 and after three years of construction the AEG was opened on May 21, 1971.

In 1971/72 all 34 classrooms were occupied. In the following school year, 5 of the 39 classes had to be taught in the neighboring Römerschanzschule because there was not enough space for all students. After discussions about the spatial situation, AEG began to plan internally for the division of the school from 1974. For this purpose, classes were formed according to the future catchment area of today's Education Center North (BZN). In September 1977 the first groups of students moved to the BZN. Since then, the number of students at the AEG has been less than 1000.

building

Spaces

The AEG school building was built from August 19, 1968 to May 21, 1971. Lessons began as early as the 1967/68 school year at the Schillerschule in Orschel-Hagen . The grammar school was later expanded. The school's own canteen was built in 2005 and a further extension in 2008 to cope with the growing number of students. In order to offer a scientific profile that corresponds to the namesake, rooms were built for the subjects of natural sciences and technology. The school building has a total of 49 classrooms, including the following 18 specialist rooms:

  • Chemistry (2)
  • Physics (3)
  • Science and Technology (1)
  • Biology (3)
  • Basic information technology education (2)
  • Music (2)
  • Visual arts (2)
  • Workroom (1)
  • Computer room (2)

Media library

There has been a media library since the 2012/2013 school year. More than 5500 books, CDs, DVDs and board games are available here (as of January 2016) that students can borrow. A year before the opening of the media library, planning and preparation by students, parents and teachers began. The media library is looked after by a team of qualified librarians, teachers, parents and the media library, which consists only of students. Thanks to the personal support provided by the AEG aktiv association, the library is open on school days from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in addition to the first lesson and the long breaks.

The media library is intended, among other things, to promote the independence of the students. Among other things, she has set herself the goal of helping students enjoy reading more and learning how to filter information out of books. Since opening, the media library has increasingly developed into a general meeting place that is used extensively by the students.

In 2016/17, between 600 and 850 schoolchildren per week took advantage of the extensive offer and made almost 1,000 loans between September and December 2014 alone. There are regular events and campaigns, such as the annual media library festival or the cocktail sale, where money is collected for larger purchases. Since January 2015, DVDs can also be borrowed in addition to books, audio books and magazines.

Since the school year 2016/17, the game edition has also been in the media library. Balls, table tennis accessories and other games for breaks can be borrowed here for use in the schoolyard.

School profile

At the Albert-Einstein-Gymnasium Reutlingen you can choose between different profiles. There are two main areas: the scientific profile and the linguistic profile. There is also the bilingual profile.

Bilingual profile

The bilingual profile represents an additional option within the two profiles natural science and technology and languages: You can also choose a linguistic or scientific focus here. For students who want to opt for the bilingual profile, a willingness to communicate and, due to the slightly higher number of hours, resilience, independence and enjoyment of learning are advantageous.

  • Grade 5 and 6
In grades 5 and 6, language skills in the target language, English, are first consolidated through 2 additional hours per week (7 hours instead of 5 hours) and expanded in a subject-oriented manner with a view to the following years.
  • Grade 7 to 10
In the following grade levels, one or two subjects are taught in English with an additional hour per week (3 hours instead of 2 hours).
The teaching of the material in the foreign language takes more time, as at least the specialist terminology in German and in the foreign language must be secured.

Scientific profile

From the 8th grade onwards, in addition to German, math, English and the second foreign language, there is another 4-hour core subject: Science and Technology, or NWT for short.

  • Grade 5 and 7
In grade 5, foreign language lessons begin with English. The choice of the second foreign language in class 6 does not in any way limit the scientific profile. You can choose both French and Latin. Regardless of this decision, it is possible to choose the scientific profile in grade 8.
  • Grade 8 to 10
In class 8 you have to choose the profile: If you choose the natural science profile, the previous foreign language choice is retained, NWT is added as a further main subject with 4 hours per week.

Linguistic profile

In the language profile, the core subjects German, Maths, English and Latin are supplemented by a further 4-hour subject in grade 8. In order to be able to choose the linguistic profile, Latin must be chosen as the second foreign language in class 6, and French is added as a further foreign language in class 8 - the order of languages cannot be reversed at the AEG.

  • Grade 5 and 7
In grade 5, foreign language lessons begin with English. If you want to have the opportunity to develop your linguistic profile, you have to choose Latin as a second foreign language in grade 6.
  • Grade 8 to 10
In class 8, the profile must finally be determined. Since Latin was chosen as the second foreign language in class 6, it is up to the students to choose the scientific profile or French, another foreign language with 4 hours per week.

Working groups

Climbing group

Schoolchildren from grade 7 to grade 12 climb every Thursday afternoon in the DAV climbing hall, which has been open since 2012 and is located right next to the school building.

Since 1998/1999, students from grades 5–12 have been playing in a big band called “The Swinging Alberts”. The orchestra now consists of around 35 students and 2 music teachers.

Choir AG
