Albert Louis Emmanuel de Fouler, comte de Relingue called Albert-Louis de Fouler (born February 9, 1770 in Lillers , † June 17, 1831 ibid) was a French general de division of the cavalry .

Live and act

Fouler came from a family of royal officials and was the son of Emmanuel-Jean Fouler, seigneur de Relingue. In April 1786 he began his service in the stables (Petites-Écuries) of King Louis XVI. In the following year he switched to the army and was soon able to distinguish himself there. His career took him from Sous-Lieutenant (May 1, 1788), Lieutenant (September 1, 1791) to Capitaine (May 1, 1792).

Fouler switched to the Armée du Nord and in 1792 came to General Nikolaus von Luckner as a staff officer . Napoleon became aware of Fouler and recommended him as an aide-de-camp for General Charles-Joseph de Pully .

In the Battle of Schweinfurt (July 24, 1796), Fouler was wounded in the right leg and had to fight with this injury for the rest of his life. With his own command, he fought bravely off Austerlitz (December 2, 1805), Heilsberg (June 10, 1807) and Aspern (May 21/22, 1809).

Fouler married Henriette-Elisabeth d'Avrange, a daughter of the War Commissioner Jean-Pierre d'Avrange. Through this marriage he was related to the officers François d'Avrange d'Haugéranville (1745-1823) and Jean François d'Avrange du Kermont (1753-1822). The later politician Louis-Édouard Fouler de Relingue (1813–1874) was his son.

After the Battle of Paris (March 30, 1814) and Napoleon's abdication (→ Abdication ), Fouler joined the Bourbons and supported King Louis XVIII. When Napoleon left the island of Elba and his " rule of the hundred days " began, Fouler was neutral.

He did not take part in the Battle of Waterloo (June 18, 1815) and was officially retired on September 9, 1815. He settled in his hometown and refused any reactivation by King Karl X. and Louis-Philippe I. He died on June 17, 1831 in Lillers, where he also found his final resting place.
