Albert Behrens

Albert Behrens (born October 7, 1891 in Hanover , † April 6, 1976 in Wennigsen ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

Albert Behrens was born the son of a baker. After attending primary school in Hanover, he completed an apprenticeship as a metal worker and then worked in this profession. He joined the SPD, was chairman of the SPD district of Hanover in the early 1930s, and from 1932 to 1933 Gauleiter of the Hanoverian Reich Banner Black-Red-Gold . He was also a non-permanent member of the Reich Insurance Office .

In May 1928 he was elected as a member of the Prussian state parliament, to which he belonged without interruption until June 1933. In parliament he represented constituency 16 (south Hanover).

During the time of National Socialism , Behrens was exposed to political and state police repression. He was briefly taken into “ protective custody ” in 1933 and monitored by the Gestapo after his release . In August 1944 he was arrested again as part of the " Operation Grid ", initially taken to the Ahlem Gestapo prison and from there transferred to the Neuengamme concentration camp .

In 1965 he moved from Hanover to Wennigsen.
