Albert Bettannier
Nicolas Albert Bettannier (born August 12, 1851 in Metz , † November 17, 1932 in Paris ) was a French painter . He was best known for his pictures depicting the loss of Alsace during the Third French Republic .
Life
Albert Bettannier grew up in Metz. He studied painting with Henri Lehman , Diogène Maillart and Isidore Pils . In 1908 he received the rank of Chevalier in the Legion of Honor.
He often exhibited with fellow artists in Paris. Postcards were printed from his works , as these were intended to strengthen the national feeling.

- Le Tache Noire (“The Black Spot”), 1887, the picture is in the possession of the German Historical Museum , Berlin. (Inventory no. Gm 98/39) This is his best known picture
- Family scene in front of a house in the mountains ; the picture is in the possession of the German Historical Museum, Berlin. (Inventory number group 76/53)
- Le désespoir ("Despair"), Hermitage (Saint Petersburg) , 1893
- La Conquête de la Lorraine (“The Conquest of Lorraine”), 1910
- L'Oiseau de France ("The Bird of France"), 1912.
