Al block

Albert "Al" Block (* 1925/26; † August 15, 2015 ) was an American jazz musician (alto and tenor saxophone , flute).

Live and act

Block played in 1950 with Artie Shaw , in the following years in the Sauter-Finegan Orchestra and in the orchestras of Tom Talbert and Benny Goodman . In 1959 he participated in Gil Evans ' album Great Jazz Standards ; 1959/1960 in the Gil Evans Orchestra for Sketches of Spain by Miles Davis and in 1962 for the follow-up album Quiet Nights . Further recording sessions with Evans ( The Individualism of Gil Evans ) followed in 1963/64 . The last recordings were made in 1965 with the orchestra of Eddie Sauter and Stan Getz as soloists ( Stan Getz Plays Music from the Soundtrack of Mickey One ). In the field of jazz he was involved in 60 recording sessions between 1950 and 1965. He died on August 15, 2015 at the age of 89.
