Albert Clement
Henri Albert Clément (born July 7, 1883 in Paris , † May 17, 1907 in Dieppe ) was a French racing driver .
Clément was the son of Adolphe Clément , who founded the Clément-Bayard car company in 1903 , and started in his father's vehicles in 1904. He immediately proved to be an excellent driver, finishing third in the 1904 Ardennes race and second in the 1904 Vanderbilt Cup . In the 1905 season he always failed due to the lack of reliability of his vehicles, but at the 1906 French Grand Prix he was able to keep up with the top drivers Ferenc Szisz and Felice Nazzaro and in the end came in third.
Enthusiastic about this success, the team also entered for the 1907 French Grand Prix in Dieppe . During training for the Grand Prix, Albert Clément had a fatal accident with a new six-cylinder Clément-Bayard on the almost 77 km long Circuit de Dieppe . He lost control of his car near Saint-Martin-en-Campagne and drove into an embankment, whereupon the vehicle overturned and came to rest about 20 m from the track. Clément died shortly after the accident, his co-driver, the mechanic Pierre Gaudermen, survived.
