Albert Dauphin (born August 26, 1827 in Amiens , † November 14, 1898 ibid) was a French lawyer and politician.

Life

Albert Dauphin studied law and became a respected lawyer in Amiens, also president of the local bar association. From November 1868 to May 1873, also during the Franco-Prussian War , he was Mayor of Amiens. He also held the post of Prefect of the Seine from March to July 1871 . Then he was from 1873–89 and 1892–98 President of the General Council of the Somme Department . Elected Senator by the same department on January 30, 1876 , he joined the Left Center. In terms of his political convictions, he was a moderate-conservative Republican. He served from 1879–82 as General Procurator at the Paris Appellhof court and on December 11, 1886, he received the portfolio of finances in René Goblet's cabinet . Since the budget committee and the Chamber of Deputies themselves declared the savings that Dauphin had introduced in the budget to be insufficient, the finance minister and the entire cabinet submitted his dismissal in May 1887. Dauphin died on November 14, 1898 at the age of 71 in Amiens.
