Albert Graefle

Albert Graefle (born May 2, 1809 in Freiburg im Breisgau , † December 27, 1889 in Munich ) was a German history and portrait painter .

Life

Around 1825 Graefle began studying at the University of Freiburg i.Br. on. He received drawing lessons from the Baden court painter Franz Joseph Zoll . From 1827 he studied at the art academy in Munich, where he had first contact with his future teacher, Franz Xaver Winterhalter . Graefle was in Paris between 1839 and 1848 , where he entered Winterhalter's studio as his pupil and assistant. Subsequently worked as a portrait and history painter, from 1846 participation in the Paris Salon . In 1852 he moved to Munich, where he mainly worked as a portrait painter and head of an art school.
