Albert Ippel

Albert Ippel (born July 2, 1885 in Berlin , † 1960 in Munich ) was a German teacher and classical archaeologist .

Career

Ippel studied classical archeology and philology in Freiburg, Berlin and Bonn and received his doctorate from the University of Bonn in 1910 . In 1910/11 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . From 1923 to 1940 he was a teacher in Breslau and Berlin. In 1940 he was appointed honorary professor for archeology at the University of Berlin . From 1947 he was an honorary professor in Hamburg . At the same time he was a consultant in the Reichsanstalt für Film und Bild in science and teaching . As head of the phonograms department and from December 1945 as deputy director, he played a key role in the reconstruction of the facility as an institute for film and image in science and teaching . In 1954 he retired. In 1955 he was awarded the Cross of Merit (Steckkreuz) of the Federal Republic of Germany.

He created series of pictures on the history and culture of antiquity and the history of music .

Albert Ippel was married to Lotte Erman (1886–1972), a daughter of the Egyptologist Adolf Erman .
