Albert Nozaki

Albert "Al" Ryuichi Nozaki (born January 1, 1912 in Tokyo , Japan , † November 16, 2003 in Los Angeles , California , United States ) was an American film architect , a specialist in science fiction in demand in the 1950s - Fabrics.

Live and act

Nozaki came to the United States at the age of three and lived in Los Angeles from then on. In the early 1930s he studied at the University of Southern California and the University of Illinois . With a Bachelor of Arts under his belt, he began his film career in 1934 as an illustrator at Paramount Pictures . Immediately after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, Nozaki lost his job at Paramount and was interned at the Manzanar War Relocation Center a little later .

After the war, Nozaki was able to work regularly as a film architect based on sets for short films premiered in 1947. His most famous film constructions were created for two science fiction classics the Paramount, The Youngest Day and, above all, Battle of the Worlds . In addition, he also equipped various comedies with Bing Crosby , Bob Hope , Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin , rare thrillers and dramas. Al Nozaki was also one of several creative minds who put the structures and equipment in place for Cecil B. DeMille's classic Bible and monumental film The Ten Commandments . For this achievement, he and his four colleagues received an Oscar nomination in 1957 .

After a single film architecture in the 1960s, again a science fiction film, Albert Nozaki withdrew into private life.
